Children’s Ministry – June 2015

Caravan Kids have finished another wonderful year of Sunday school! We enjoyed learning about Who Jesus Is, focusing on Matthew 16:15 – “Who do you say that I am? You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” The kids really enjoyed some of our large group lessons, like Unfrozen and What does the Bible Say? It was a fun year with really great kids! We also graduated 9 fifth graders!

There are some summer events in the works, the biggest one being Vacation Bible School. The theme this year is Everest: Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power. We are looking for volunteers, middle school through adults!

We are looking forward to hosting two events for 3rd through 5th graders as well. We are planning for one in June and one in August. They will be held on a Wednesday evening, plan to bring your friends and have fun! Watch your inbox for more information. As always if you have any questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Beth Jennings.

Children’s Ministry – March 2015

March is a busy month this year!  Our family movie event, featuring Veggie Tales Noah’s Ark, is Sunday March 15 @ 3 pm. See you in the sanctuary!
We have a challenge going on in Caravan Kids Sunday School to raise money to purchase items through Samaritan’s Purse. The kids seem excited about “digging through their couches.”
The Easter Egg Hunt has been planned for indoors this year! Join us at 9:30am on March 28. Meet in the FLC gym.
And finally, we are looking for a few individuals willing to help with planning and preparations for Vacation Bible School. Planning will begin after spring break. Please let Beth know if your are interested!
Pioneer Clubs:
Can you believe it’s already time to start working on derby cars? Most of the kids already have their cars cut out. This Wednesday, March 18, we begin painting. We could use some parent help! If you are available to help (rinsing brushes, refilling water jars, helping kids get paint to their tables, etc.), we will be in the Fellowship Hall starting around 6:45 or 7:00pm.
It’s not too late to get a car kit for the Open Round! Contact Laura Jolliffe ( if you are interested! Race day is April 22 at 6:30pm in the gym.

Children’s Ministry – February 2015

Caravan: Worship Ways!
We have begun our worship ways curriculum! The objective is to understand the importance of worship in our relationship with God and to explore ways children can worship – with the goal of leading the congregation during a morning worship service. If your child is interested in being a part of this please have them to Sunday school @ 9:50 am! We have a few more weeks of learning different ways in which we worship: dramatic reading, dance, singing, puppets, prayer, bells, instruments, and songs with motions. Please plan to join us on Sunday, March 1, for both services (8:45am & 11am) as we lead the congregation in a time of praise and worship to our great God!
Upcoming Events:
Pioneer Clubs:
Our current unit of study is “God’s Family.” We heard the parable of the Lost Sheep, which tells us that God is not willing for any to be lost. God sent Jesus to be our Good Shepherd, to die for our sins and invite us into God’s family. We also read the parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders, which shows that God wants us to build our Christian lives on the strong foundation of his Word. In the next two weeks we will talk about how we can help others join God’s family, and that Jesus will help us when we ask.

Children’s Ministry – January 2015

Upcoming Events (more information will be available as the dates draw closer):

  • January 16: Parents’ Night Out
  • March 1: Children Lead Worship
  • March 15: Family Movie
  • March 28: Easter Event

Pioneer Clubs: It’s almost Pando time! First through fifth graders and their families can sign up to go to Pando on February 4. Tickets will be available the next two Wednesday nights by the Pioneer Clubs office downstairs. Parents must sign a waiver, and ticket money is due no later than February 1 (ages 11 and older are $12, ages 10 and under are $10).

We recently finished our unit on Friends. Children learned that true friends care for and help each other, and that Jesus sets the perfect example. We learned that we can forgive our friends because God forgives us, and that Jesus wants us to reach out and include everyone. Finally, we also learned that our friends influence us, and we need to be able to evaluate whether their influence is good or bad, so we can say yes to the good and no to the bad.

In our next unit, we will talk about what it means to be in God’s family. Keep this page handy – the memory verses are listed below:

In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish. Matthew 18:14 (learn by January 28)

Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. Matthew 7:24 (learn by February 11)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8 (learn by February 18)
