RRC is welcoming another staff member soon! Lori Elerick will join the team as the new part-time custodian. Lori will take over the duties previously performed by Kevin VerMerris. Lucy Layman will continue with her custodial duties also. Lori and her husband live in Rockford and have 6 daughters. Lori’s sister, Tamra Miller, attends RRC. Welcome, Lori!

The facilities team is working on some updates in many areas of our building. We are preparing an office for our new Worship Director to come later this month. We have had some leaks and weather damage to contend with in the new kitchen area. We continue to look for leaks in other areas of the building, so if you see water, please let Marcia Shanken or Tom Cruttenden know. There are potential upgrades to our sound and video production in the sanctuary that we are looking into as we continue to improve.

Our property team recently had some tree stumps ground and holes filled in the yard. Thank  you to all who helped with fall cleaning. We have new signs at the major doorways, new lighting in the gym, and new exit signs. We are also looking at changes to the sound/video ministry that will help us better present Pastor Paul’s materials. Coming up is preparing the building for winter, including roof maintenance and some seal replacement. Things are gradually being checked off the maintenance list and we are more able to focus on new initiatives.

We are considering replacing lighting in the FLC and replacing broken fans. The grounds have been well-maintained and we are moving into summer. Marcia is enjoying her new security system. When she is alone in the building, it will be locked. A sign on the west entrance will ask you to please use the intercom system for entry.

Our building has received a new security feature! We now have a camera intercom for the “front door” on the west side of the building. During the day, all doors will be locked and Marcia (or someone else in the office) will control access to anyone that doesn’t have a key. All other doors are still accessible with a key, but everyone without a key is required to be permitted into the building. The door will remain unlocked during normal high-traffic times.

Our green van is beginning to require more maintenance. And – praise – our transportation needs are maxing out our two vans. Please pray for guidance in our transportation.

Property – March 2015

The property ministry team is spending a special gift donation for multimedia that actually encompasses a few other things, including a security system (monitor and remote lock), some computers, TV’s and DVD’s, and a multimedia system for our theater. We have spent about half of the fund, and the rest seems to be earmarked for enhancements.

With the change in weather, we hope to begin cleaning up outside and getting some spring things done. Each new season brings new jobs to do around the church. There are a few small roof leaks to look into, and some summer repairs that need to be scheduled.

We had a sewer backup a few weeks ago that affected the entire “historic building” (not the FLC). The backup seemed to be within our own building, but we’re not sure what it was. Everything was cleaned and taken care of. We will monitor this in months and years to come.

We may require saving money for a new van soon, as the “green meanie” is making some bad rattles and breaks.

There have been some computer network changes and hiccups, and we have taken care of most of those. A few more enhancements are yet to be completed.

There has been some mention of a decorating enhancement committee. That would be great to see something come together if there are interested members.

If anyone sees a facilities issue or has a concern, please be sure to let staff or myself (Tom Cruttenden) know so that we can take care of it.

The team is continuing to make improvements and look for cost savings. We have changed our internet and wireless networks slightly because there was notice of high traffic levels on the WiFi. These changes, as well as upgrades to computers and equipment, continue to be in flux. We have a few purchases on our list for the near future as well to make sure ministries have what they need and that the building is in good shape.

Property – January 2015

Our property team is busy! They have been working diligently on their list of 63 items to repair, and through concerted effort, they are down to 20. Items come up as often as they get checked off, so it’s a constant effort to keep going. They could use more skilled people to call on, so let one of them know if you can offer any assistance!

Many people ask about our boiler, and we are told it should last a few more years. It is probably a good idea to start saving for the $20,000 repair.

This past year, we were given a special financial gift for media items. We have used this to purchase a television for the fireside room, which allowed us to move TVs around and upgrade the television in children’s ministry. We also purchased a couple of computers and some network equipment. We are looking into other things that might need upgrade or replacement.

God helps us and enables our willing hands!
