Frustrated, Incomplete, Disappointed

A message from Luke Morgan to those in the Spiritual Formation: Growing in Christ Sunday School Class:
On Sunday, in the Fireside Room, we gathered and spoke about how our spiritual disciplines are going. For those who have not been involved with the Spiritual Formation class, we have been taking time to be deliberate about our spiritual health through regular, planned times of prayer, fasting, Bible study, and other “spiritual disciplines.” When we met this Sunday morning, we invited people to use one word to describe their progress thus far. We heard words like: “Frustrated – Incomplete – Disappointed.”
I want to encourage each of you and remind you that spiritual growth is hard! When a person begins a physical fitness regime, he or she will feel the initial pain of failure. The body is not used to the strain. In the same way, it takes time and some pain to build up the practice of the spiritual disciplines.
Ephesians 4:8-10 provides us with encouragement: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Therefore, begin again today. There is no “I’m too far behind” and there is no “I have failed.” Begin again today. Share your frustration, realize you are not incomplete, nor a disappointment. We will see you on Sunday morning in the Fireside Room. Begin again today.
