Worship – July 2015
The search for our next Director of Worship is well underway. The team has now met three times. In partnership with Pastor Paul and the Admin. Board, we have successfully updated the job description and have begun a targeted search for candidates. We also have developed a set of first interview questions and are praying for 6-7 qualified candidates to meet with initially. Please join us in praying that God would make evident to us the person he has already chosen for this important role in our church.
Search team: Stephanie Bergman (chair), Brian Fleetham, Luke Morgan, Teresa Scholten, Tammy Bradford, and Eric Ringnalda.

Consistory – June 2015
Our Summer Worship time is 9:30 a.m. The new schedule will run through September 6, Labor Day weekend. Be sure to help spread the word to your neighbors and friends.
Will you be gone for some Sundays this summer? If so, you are encouraged to send your donation envelopes to the church. Financial gifts generally decline over the summer while people are on vacation or at cottages, and it would be helpful to have a steady amount of money coming in to meet financial obligations that occur year-round.
After Service Socials will be held after the 9:30 a.m. services throughout the summer. It is easy to host – keep it simple with some cookies, coffee, and juice drink. There are several weeks still available for families or groups in the congregation to take a turn at hosting the social. Costs will be reimbursed from church funds (so keep your receipts). If you are interested in hosting, please contact Laura Jolliffe.
VBS is coming up quickly! Each evening from July 26 – 29, 6-8 p.m., kids from age 3 through having completed the 5th grade are invited to learn about conquering challenges with God’s Mighty Power. If you are able to help out during some or all of those evenings, please contact Beth Jennings or sign up via the e-mail link in recent e-Beacons.
Relief Donations are still being received for Nepal. Nepal, India, and Tibet were devastated by recent earthquakes. You can help bring aid to this area of the world with prayer and financial giving. RCA Global Mission is teaming with World Vision to bring relief. Giving can be done by donating online directly to the RCA (https://www.rca.org/news/rca-responds-nepal-earthquake), or by placing a clearly marked envelope in the offering plate any Sunday until the end of June.

Adult Ministry – June 2015
It is the start of summer, but the Adult Ministries Committee is already thinking about Fall and what classes will be offered for the Sunday School hour and for Wednesday night studies. We want to give opportunities for people to grow in the knowledge of Christ and in fellowship with other Christians.
Volunteers for teaching some of the classes have graciously come forward and we anticipate offering a variety of class topics. If you are not already in a small dinner or Bible study group, there will be an opportunity to join one, so be thinking about that. You will be able to sign up for classes and activities at the Fall Festival, planned for September 13.
As a new committee, we are determining the scope of groups/activities for our committee to oversee. Our church has many groups and activities and we distinguished between outreach activities and social activities before coming up with the following:
- Wednesday adult groups
- Small groups – dinner and Bible study
- Adult fellowship group & singles group
- Men’s prayer breakfast
- Men’s mentoring group
- Saturday men’s and boy’s group
- Women’s Bible study – several groups
- Women’s lenten morning
- Community ladies day
- Church library
If you are a leader for one of these groups, our committee would like to be a resource for you, to help promote the group and, if needed, help find study materials. We also want to be aware of what each group is teaching – the topic or name of the book, etc., when you meet, and how to join the group. When new people come to church, we want to be able to “plug them” into a group if they desire that. Knowing who to contact and what is being taught would help us to do that. One of the committee will be connecting with the leaders of each group this summer. Please let us know if we can help you.
Colossians 1:9-11 (NIV)
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience…

Youth Ministry – June 2015
Hello! My name is Brian Ellis and I am the new youth director at Rockford Reformed Church. I am very excited about the opportunity to begin working with the youth group and would like to take a moment to tell you a little about myself. My parents, sister, and I have lived in Rockford my entire life, and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this community. I am an avid sports fan and enjoy watching, playing, or talking about a variety of sports. I am also interested in outdoor activities such as camping and kayaking. Currently I am a senior at Kuyper College where I study youth ministry. I have been gaining youth ministry experience for the last 5 years, 4 of which were as an intern. Over that time my passion for youth ministry has continued to grow. I love having a job that allows me to walk alongside our youth as they explore their life and their faith. I look forward to getting to know you all!
Our first event of the summer, the Middle School bonfire, went well with over 20 kids in attendance. The High School bonfire is scheduled for July 22, location still to be determined.
